Its origins go back at least to the tenth century, where he founded a monastery at the foot of a shrine dedicated to St. Mark. This monastery favored by the king Bermudo II was attacked by the Normans, being rebuilt at the initiative of Alfonso VII in the year 1134 in collaboration with noble as Afonso Bermudez or Count Pedro Osorio posed to him by donations and gave him privileges.
